Yordan Kamdzhalov completed his conducting studies in Sofia and Berlin, as well as masterclasses with world-class conductors.

He has had impressive performances on three continents, having conducted dozens of ensembles in a number of countries, in cultural centers such as Zurich, Berlin, London, Vienna, Boston, Tokyo, Singapore, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Munich, and others. He is a laureate of international competitions for conductors, including “Gustav Mahler”, “Jorma Panula”, and “Alliance London”.

Unanimously elected General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Opera and Philharmonic in Heidelberg (the first and only foreigner elected to this post in the history of the cultural center). Later, he was General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the National Opera in Rijeka – European Capital of Culture for 2020.

Co-founder of the “Yordan Kamdzhalov” Foundation, created with the aim of supporting the development of young Bulgarian talents and grown into a conceptual cultural platform. Initiator and creator of the Music Laboratory for the Human Self choir, the Music Laboratory for the Human Self Ensemble, as well as the “Bulgaria Sings” format. Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of GENESIS ORCHESTRA.

He carries out a number of recordings for leading record companies such as EDEL and CPO Records. Albums under his baton have received prestigious European nominations, including “Recording of the Year” by Opus Klassik (Berlin) and the esteemed Echo Klassik award (Hamburg).

The relentless creative activity of Maestro Yordan Kamdzhalov continues also as co-founder, Music Director, and Chief Conductor of the “Boris Christoff” International Music Academy and Festival in Italy.

His commitment in the field of education is also expressed in educational-creative interactions with institutions on three continents, such as Heidelberg University, Raffles Institution Singapore, Università di Bologna, Harvard University, and Sofia University.

NASA and the International Astronomy Center give his name to asteroid 52292 – Kamdzhalov.

Yordan Kamdzhalov is the founder and head of the Academy for Man – an interdisciplinary educational center in the fields of science, art, and sports.

Maestro Kamdzhalov is the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the “Kamdzhalov” Festival in the Valley of Roses, as well as the “Strive” Music Festival at the Vrana Royal Palace, dedicated to the musical future of Bulgaria.

The circle of cultural and educational responsibilities of Yordan Kamdzhalov acquired new dimensions at the beginning of 2025, when he took over the post of Chairman of the Board of “Strive” educational structures – a private primary school and kindergarten at the base of the Italian Lyceum, Sofia.
